The Panther Women’s Soccer Team was hosted by Lakewood on May 3 in a match that seemed more like a mugging than soccer. Lakewood cashed in early for a first goal when play action drew the Stockbridge keeper out of the box. Immediately after the Lakewood goal, shots by Gracie Allen, Sylvia Whitt, and Brittany Freiermuth pressured the Lakewood defense to even the score without result. Lakewood scored again on a penalty kick half way through the first half. The Panthers persisted until Kaitlin Miller succeeded in putting a close kick in the Lakewood goal with an assist by Brianna Hill.
The second half of the match was a back and forth battle until a Lakewood forward hit the Panther’s net with a well-placed shot from the left corner of the field. The remainder of the second half saw the Panthers determinedly move the ball back to the Lakewood side of the field on strong defensive play by Payton Killinger, Sylvia Whitt, and Paige Brown. Megan Catron, Brianna Hill, Faith Whitt, Orianna Hackworth, and Baylee Heidrich each made goal shots that gave their team hopes to close the scoring gap, but the Lakewood keeper was able to keep the ball out of their net. Bethany Plennert made five saves at keeper during the match as the Panthers fell 3-1.
