March 29, 2018 Stockbridge v Perry

The Stockbridge Lady Panthers rolled to their second season win on Thursday, March 29, with a 3-0 GLAC League victory over the Perry Ramblers. The teams record now stands at 2-0 overall and 1-0 in league play.

As the first half unfolded under a cold rain the ball was pushed back and forth across the centerline as each team tested the others defense. Stockbridge steadily increased their pressure on Perry peppering their goal keeper with 12 shots on goal; one from Anna Schlaff, two from Brittany Freiermuth, four from Faith Whitt, and five from Megan Catron. However, the Perry goal keeper proved too quick until, with just 5 minutes remaining in the half, Faith Whitt fired a line drive that hit the corner of the net from the center of the field 25 yards out. Perry tried to answer the Stockbridge goal, but Peyton Killinger performed a key turn and steal while goal keeper, Bethany Plennert, stopped a 35 yard shot to send Perry scoreless into half time.

The second half saw Stockbridge ramp up their offensive pressure and as well defensively shutting down the Ramblers each time they crossed the center line. Paige Brown performed three turns and two steals to oppress the Perry offense. With an assist from Sylvia Whitt, Faith Whitt hit a 20 yard center field goal 15 minutes into the final half to extend the Panther lead. Perry seemed disheartened for a time, but then organized strong runs at the Stockbridge goal, but the Panther defensive line proved too solid. Baylee Heidrich contributed with two steals and an impressive string of ball control runs to foil Perry’s offence and send the ball back to the Stockbridge offense.

At 25 minutes into the second half, on a pass from Megan Catron, Faith Whitt kicked a shot that rebounded off the Rambler goal post. Faith collected the rebound and finessed a close shot into the corner of the net for a third Panther goal. Although down by three goals the Ramblers continued to press the Panther defense, but only totaled two shots before the clock expired. Goal keeper, Betheny Plennert, completed three saves during the match securing the Panthers second 3-0 shutout in as many games.

The team is off for Spring Break, returning to action on Tuesday, April 10th, when they play host to the Sentinels of Charyl Stockwell Academy. The game will start at 5:30.
