The Lady Panthers traveled to Perry on Thursday night and in an emotionally charged gym they were able to defeat the Ramblers 35-14. Before getting to the highlights of the game, you need to know what went on behind the locker room doors. Perry had suffered the lose of one of their varsity players earlier in the week. The JV girls from Stockbridge wanted to show their support and encourage the Lady Ramblers. The Stockbridge team came up with their own ideas to show their support and went into Perry’s locker room before the game to let the Ramblers know that they are praying and thinking about their situation. “This is a great group of young ladies. They came to me with the idea and I supported them 100%. Coach Hallock, from Perry, and I have been friends for 20 years and when I told him of the idea he was very moved. It even brought a tear to his eye when the girls went into the locker room.” Coach Hejnal said.
Once the game began Stockbridge took command early and let throughout. Kaylee Dalton led the offense with 8 points and Tyler Showerman added 6. Hailey Fraser-Gutting, Hailey Howard, Jorden Myers, Madi Mazuca, Molly Nichols, and Paige Wooden all scored as well. It was the defensive intensity that proved to much for the Ramblers. Coach Hejnal added, “This was our best defensive effort of the season. We have been getting better each and every game. I am excited to see what we do when we go to Olivet on Tuesday night.”
The win raises their record to 13-4 overall and 8-1 in the GLAC. The game at Olivet on Tuesday will go along way in deciding the league championship, as Olivet has only one lose as well. Come out and support the ladies on Tuesday, game time is 5:30 pm.
